PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY BEGINS IN FLORIDA ON CHRISTIAN-GAY-THEMED FILM “MISCONCEPTIONS”
Orlando Jones, A.J. Cook and Sarah Carter signed to star in this independently-produced feature film comedy
January 5 th 2008 - Hollywood, CA. – Principal photography began today in St. Petersburg, Florida on MISCONCEPTIONS, an independent feature film that takes a lighthearted look at the ongoing culture war between same-sex parenting and Christian conservatives.
The film is being directed by Oscar-and Emmy-nominated veteran TV and feature director Ron Satlof, from a script by Satlof and Ira Pearlstein, Steven J. Brown (YELLOW, ADRIFT IN MANHATTAN) will produce, with Ted Perkins and J.A. Bremont acting as Executive Producers. The film will be co-produced by Christine Kane, Zackary Reeves, Ed Arenas and Lineage Pictures.
The story centers on a religiously conservative, married southern woman who receives a message from God instructing her to act as a surrogate mother and carry a child for two married gay men who live in Boston - a Jewish doctor and and African-American dance choreographer. All Hell breaks loose when the African American man comes to her home down south to micro-manage her pregnancy, and he won't leave.
Film and TV celebrity Orlando Jones (DRUMLINE; THE ORLANDO JONES SHOW) headlines an ensemble cast that also includes A.J. Cook (TV’s CRIMINAL MINDS, THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, FINAL DESTINATION 2); Sarah Carter (TV’s SHARK, HAVEN ); Sam Ball; David Sutcliffe, David Moscow (HONEY, JUST MARRIED); Nicole Kohnen and Tom Bower.
Said director Satlof: “Regardless of where you are on the issue of gay marriage or religion in public life, this story has something for everybody.”
Producers will show promos of the film in Cannes and Berlin, and will screen the film for buyers in or out of competition at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. All domestic and international rights are available.
The film was packaged by United Talent Agency in Los Angeles.
